What is fun, inspiring, and instructive about watching these competitive senior athletes' stories unfold on the screen is that they really like to win. In their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and even at 100, they find competition invigorating.

The National Senior Games and the rousing film Age of Champions ask all of us to consider what motivates us. Can we turn a little friendly competition with our 50+ friends into an Olympic dream? Can we move beyond training at the gym, doing pilates, or following a personal trainer to try long jump, the butterfly, speedskating, or competitive weightlifting again? If a centenarian can compete in a tennis match, an 88-year-old can throw a javelin, and a 72-year-old grandmother can make a free throw and take an elbow to the face, then can't we? Whether we are working too much, facing an empty nest, semi-retired, or signing up for Social Security, we can turn our love of sport and competition into pursuing Gold.

First of all let me say that your documentary "Age of Champions" is wonderful! I am a Senior Athlete in cycling and a "youngin'" compared to those in your film - I am "only" 62! But I am a Gold Medalist and have gone to the Nationals only to long for one of THOSE Gold Medals. I must say that you captured the essence of what the games are about - not just aggressive, hard fought competition - but about relationships - with those you compete against and those who cheer you on. I have only seen this kind of intense competition with companionship at the end in professional Stanley Cup hockey. Very nicely done!

I have ordered your film so that I can use it in my "Developmental Psychology", "The Psychology of Aging", and "Positive Psychology" classes. I have used the last documentary that the NSGA offered - "Racing Against the Clock" - in those classes with students who believe that "old" is somewhere around 30 or 40! They are most taken back by the talents of these athletes. I can't wait to show them your film! So thanks for your work. I wanted you to know the kind of ripple effect that it is having here....
